William J Kao, LPC-I
William Kao completed a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. Mr. Kao would go on to graduate with a Master of Arts in Counseling from Houston Baptist University in 2018. Mr. Kao is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern certified by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
Previously, Mr. Kao served as a Therapist Intern at The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD counseling adults diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and various other Anxiety Disorders. Mr. Kao is a Gottman Method Level 2 certified therapist in couples counseling. Mr. Kao was also previously a board member of the Houston Licensed Professional Counselor Association. Mr. Kao has attended numerous continuing education trainings including topics like Shame Resilience Theory and Teenage Depression/Risk Taking Behavior.
In addition Mr. Kao has a variety of experiences in the service field including Human Resource Generalist, Caregiver, CNA, Tutor, English as a Foreign Language Teacher, and Catering Specialist. Mr. Kao has also volunteered with organizations like Red Cross and Good Shepherd Hospice.
Mr Kao’s goals as a therapist are to help clients live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Mr. Kao focuses on the client’s strengths and helps guide them towards things they can do in the present and in the future. Mr. Kao also believes that it is important to resolve unfinished business from the past in order to facilitate the process of moving forward. Mr. Kao specializes in relationship issues, couple’s issues, conflict resolution, and depression management. Mr. Kao utilizes techniques from a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and The Gottman Method.
